Donate your used Books and Media

Some things we’ll pickup for you

If you have books and media that you no longer need or want, but would like them to be donated to a charity, we may be able to help with that. As long as you have five boxes or more, we will come to you and pick them up. This is a great option for someone who is moving, an estate that needs to be cleaned out, or if you have a bookcase full of books that you need removed.

The benefits to you are that we will come pick up your books for free and take them to your charity of choice as long as there are 5 boxes or more. If you have fewer boxes than this, we may be able to work something out if we are planning to be in your area.

Whether it be in charity or just clear your space, we can find a good home for your books. Call (760) 428-8965 or email to set up an appointment.

How does it work?

First, for full disclosure, we are a for profit business. What is less well known is that most non-profits have a lot of overhead costs which results in a significantly less of a donation actually going to the needy. As an example, overhead for some charities can be has high as $0.80 to the dollar. That would mean that only $0.20 actually gets given to the people who need it most.

While we do have an online store, the fact is that most books simply do not fit into our business model. While we could sell these books for a few dollars to a local store or hold a garage sale, we have chosen to give back to our community.  Out of your donation, we will probably only use about 20-25% of them. That means that 75-80% of your donation will go to back into the community and find a good home. If we are unable to find a good home for them, they will not be thrown into a landfill, but will be taken to the nearest recycling center.

Convenient and friendly pickup at your door is the reason why many people have chosen Vista Flipper as their Book Donation Center.

What about condition?

Books must be in a reasonable condition without mold, mildew, missing pages, loose spines, or water damage. Highlighting and marks in the text are not ideal, but we can still take those if  the rest of the book is intact.

Who do you donate to?

Up to 80% of books donated will go directly to local non-profits who will be able to use them. At present, we donate to:

  • Local libraries
  • Goodwill
  • Children’s hospitals
  • Disabled American Veterans charities and hospitals
  • YMCA
